E3 2019: Fallout 76 to receive free update and Nuclear Winter mode
10 June 2019 – by Jack Taylor
Fallout 76 will receive a large free update and a battle royale mode later this year, as well as a free trial this week.
The free update, dubbed Wastelanders, was introduced during Bethesda's E3 2019 presentation and "fundamentally changes" the way Flalout 76 is experienced, according to the studio.
Wastelanders adds story to the game taking place one year later, when people are returning to Appalachia - with factions of settlers and raiders aiming to shape the world as their own, with a new main quest featuring choices and consequences included as part of this.
The battle royale mode is called Nuclear Winter and includes 52-player PvP gameplay, tasking players with surviving the onslaught of just-exploded nuclear bombs which will wipe out everything in their path.
Wastelanders launches as a free update in the autumn, though current players can take part in a pre-beta for Nuclear Winter starting on 10 June; on the same day, a free trial week will be available for Fallout 76 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
